September brings a full programme of Social Care Skills online seminars, with eight sessions covering some of the most important areas of practice, safeguarding, leadership and quality assurance across children’s homes, supported accommodation and wider children’s social care.
From strengthening risk assessments and support planning to understanding regulatory responsibilities, managing allegations and improving quality assurance, the September programme is designed to support professionals to translate requirements and good practice into confident, evidence-informed everyday practice.
All seminars are delivered live online, providing opportunities for discussion, reflection and practical application.
1 September | Risk Assessments & Care/Support Plans in Children’s Social Care
10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Risk assessments and care/support plans should be working documents that inform practice rather than paperwork completed simply for compliance.
This session explores how professionals can identify risks and protective factors, connect assessment with planning, and develop meaningful plans that demonstrate how support contributes to children’s and young people’s safety, progress and outcomes.
3 September | Reflective Practice and Supervision in Residential Settings

Good supervision goes beyond reviewing tasks and performance.
This seminar considers how supervision can create meaningful opportunities for reflection, professional curiosity, learning and development, while recognising the emotional demands of working in residential settings.
11 September | Restorative Practice in Children’s Social Care: Building Relationships and Repairing Harm

Restorative practice offers an alternative to approaches centred primarily on blame, punishment and consequences.
Participants will explore how restorative approaches can help children, young people and adults understand harm, recognise its impact, take responsibility where appropriate and rebuild relationships following conflict or relationship breakdown.
16 September | Supported Accommodation Regulations

The Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023 introduced the regulatory framework for supported accommodation for looked after children and care leavers aged 16 and 17.
This seminar supports providers, Registered Service Managers, Nominated Individuals and practitioners to understand the regulatory expectations and consider what these requirements mean for the organisation and delivery of services in practice.
18 September | Managing Allegations

Responding to allegations about adults working with children requires organisations to balance a number of important responsibilities.
This session explores safeguarding, appropriate information sharing, fair processes, regulatory responsibilities and multi-agency working, helping professionals respond to concerns in a timely, proportionate and defensible way.
22 September | The Roles of the Nominated Individual / Responsible Individual

Effective services require effective oversight.
This seminar examines the responsibilities of Nominated Individuals and Responsible Individuals, their relationship with Registered Managers, and how effective governance, scrutiny and leadership can contribute to safer services and better outcomes for children and young people.
24 September | Effective Pathway Planning

Pathway Planning should be much more than completing a document or meeting a statutory process.
This practical session explores how professionals can develop person-centred, realistic and outcome-focused Pathway Plans, meaningfully involving young people and using planning as a dynamic process to support their transition towards greater independence.
29 September | Quality Assurance in Children’s Residential Settings: Driving Improvement Through Effective Monitoring

We finish September with a full-day seminar focused on developing meaningful approaches to quality assurance.
The session moves beyond checking whether policies, records and procedures exist to consider how organisations can evaluate the quality and impact of practice, identify patterns and emerging concerns, recognise strengths and use evidence to drive continuous improvement.
