Social Care Skills Leadership Programmes

Leading services for children and young people requires more than compliance with regulations. It demands reflective leadership, confident decision-making, and the ability to navigate complex safeguarding, workforce, and operational challenges.

The Social Care Skills Leadership Programmes are designed to support professionals responsible for leading and developing services across children’s social care. These programmes provide an ongoing space for professional learning, leadership reflection, and sector engagement.

Rather than one-off training sessions, the programmes offer continuous development throughout the year, combining structured training, leadership discussions, sector updates and access to expert guidance.

Participants benefit from a supportive community of leaders facing similar challenges, while gaining practical tools to strengthen governance, safeguarding and service quality.

What the Leadership Programmes Offer

All Social Care Skills Leadership Programmes include a combination of professional development, practical training and ongoing support.

Participants benefit from:

  • Specialised Training Sessions
    • Members can attend up to two Social Care Skills training sessions per month, choosing from the full seminar programme. This ensures leaders can focus on the areas most relevant to their services.
  • Monthly Leadership Development Sessions
    • Each programme includes a monthly virtual leadership session (approximately 2 hours) where managers and senior practitioners explore key challenges within the sector, exchange ideas and discuss practical solutions. These sessions create space for reflective leadership discussions on topics such as safeguarding leadership, workforce development, inspection readiness, and service quality.
  • Consultancy and Direct Support
    • Leaders also have access to consultancy support for situations where additional guidance is needed, whether around regulatory requirements, service development, inspection preparation or complex operational issues.
  • Sector Updates and Professional Community
    • Members are invited to join a private WhatsApp group, where we share sector updates, legislative changes, government announcements and practical resources relevant to children’s social care.

Social Care Skills currently offers two specialised leadership programmes designed for different parts of the sector.

Supported Accommodation

This programme is designed for Registered Service Managers, Deputies and senior leaders working within Supported Accommodation services for young people aged 16–17.
