Supported accommodation providers are required to notify Ofsted of specified events and other serious incidents relating to children. However, deciding whether an incident meets the notification threshold can require careful professional judgement.
The Regulation 27 Notification Decision Tree provides a clear and structured visual guide to support Registered Persons and Registered Service Managers when making notification decisions.
The resource covers the key Regulation 27 notification categories, including the death of a child, safeguarding referrals, known or suspected sexual and criminal exploitation, serious incidents requiring police involvement, allegations of abuse, child protection enquiries, incidents involving measures of restraint and other incidents considered serious by the Registered Person.
The decision tree also provides practical seriousness indicators and prompts managers to consider the nature and impact of an incident, the child’s circumstances and vulnerability, patterns of repeated incidents, escalation and cumulative impact.
